Have not been out about town much the past few days. Had a Liter Bottle of juice fall off the grocery shelf (third shelf up) onto my foot. It is bruised, not broken, but walking is difficult. Ice and elevation.
Husband went out to an International Men's meeting Tues. Had a speaker talking about Medical Tourism here. One guy spoke that had knee surgery in the US, and had to have it re-done this year. He did it all here in Merida for the cost of what his co-pay was at home. hmm... and the Dr. and nurses came to his house to check on him.
All about town things are getting cleaned up for Carnival. 10,000 new plants are being planted on the parade route. Streets are being hand swept. Curbs are painted, trees are trimmed, Coca Cola kiosks are going up on the Main Avenue- Paseo De Montejo, along with Bleachers. Everything started today. Burning of Bad Humor was tonight in Centro. Tomorrow is the Pre-school parade at noon, then the dance troupe parade Friday. Saturday is the Fantasy parade and Sunday is the Party Parade. Monday night is the Regional parade- everyone in native costumes. Tuesday at noon is the Battle of the Flowers parade- they throw flowers instead of beads at this one. Wed. marks the end of Carnival with the burning of Juan Carnival in the town square. This will be close to the beginning of Lent.
Easter Week is coming soon- 'Semana Santa' is a very big deal here. Will post more on that later.
